Today, soccer has become the most popular sport in the world. This sport usually requires ten players and one goal keeper on each team. The game is split into two 45 minute portions. The goal of soccer is to kick a ball into the other team’s goal at the end of the field. If a game ends in a tie, additional time may be added to determine a winner. This sport is known as football in Europe and most other countries around the word.

In the United States, soccer has grown in popularity over the recent years. There are now nine Major League Soccer teams in the country compared to just two team that existed in 2004. The number of high school soccer players have also double since 1990 and there are now almost 750,000 players in the country. The number of youth players has also doubled in the past twenty years and now stands at over four million children.

During the 2010 World Cup, more than 24 million people in the country watched the final game between Spain and the Netherlands, which makes it the most watched soccer game in United States history. This is more people than the combined viewership of every Major League Baseball game that has taken place since 2004. The previous soccer television record was set in 1994 when 19.4 million viewers watched the World Cup final.

Over 700 million people watched the 2010 World Cup final game on television. In many countries around the world, additional records were set. In the United Kingdom, 18.4 million people watched the World Cup in sports channels from providers like http://www.direct.tv. Over 15 million people watched it in Spain, which was the highest television audience ever for the country. In Holland, 90% of the country watched the World Cup for a total of almost 9 million people.

1. Cheerleading as a Team Sport

Cheerleading is a team sport that offers a lot to get excited about. There are several reasons to take up cheerleading. No longer just a sideline event, cheerleading comes with the opportunity to win cash prizes, trophies, and bragging rights for your school. To warm you up first, consider hiring a trainer before pursuing cheering. Go to http://www.411.ca for more information on this.

2. Social Engineers

Cheerleaders are peppy people by nature who rally, motivate, and encourage teams on to victory. They perform synchronized routines with military like precision dazzling audiences and raising the team moral. Cheerleaders are in fact team representatives serving as Good Will Ambassadors for the school or league. Cheerleaders offer more than entertainment and are in fact, staples in many arenas.

3. Cheerleading Unions

The idea of cheerleaders starting unions and organizing for better working conditions isn’t a bad idea. Injuries are a downside of this team sport. If classified cheerleading could quite easily be listed as a contact sport. One job hazard might be found in using the body to build human pyramids. Back, leg, and leg pains later in life are often a direct result of sports injuries obtained during youth and early adult years.

4. Additional Advantages of Team Sports

Cheerleading offers many advantages as a team sport. Team members learn to work together. Trust and spending enormous amounts of time practicing together builds team morale and friendships develop over time. Many of these friendships are lifelong that is something to cheer about.

5. Confidence

Team sports allow for increased confidence and skill building. Cheerleaders smile by trade, but part of that smile comes from confidence. When a cheer team is in sync you the crowd can feel the energy of confidence and an air that decries anything but winning. A winning attitude is transferred throughout the stands, that the players can feel and when done right the energy travels throughout the entire arena spurring a team onto victory.

Nowadays, there are supplements out there for everything: one to make you thinner, one to build muscle, one to grow hair, one to burn fat; the list is endless. The debate on whether supplements do the trick (and whether they do it in a healthy way or not) is a well-worn one. For anyone who is serious about getting into better physical shape, the secret is…well, it’s not really a secret.

Eat Healthy

Bodies are made up of mostly water. That’s why it is so important that humans have water; it’s the oil in our engine. Just like a car however, a body must have fuel too. What humans eat determines a good majority of what their bodies look like. It’s not always easy and it’s usually not enjoyable, but cutting the junk food out of a diet is the most important (and productive!) way of being healthy and getting into better shape.

Regular Exercise

Exercising once a month won’t work. Neither will working out for one week before a big event. Exercise has to be a constant in a person’s life for it to be effective. By regularly exercising, the body burns off excess fat and strengthens muscles. To get a good-looking body, you have to exercise. However, exercise can only do so much by itself. If a body is still intaking thousands of empty calories, exercise won’t be able to properly or fully digest them, which leads to fat build up and an end result of pudginess.

It is difficult to imbibe team spirit in sports that require the least teamwork. Consider a sport like baseball or even cricket for that matter. There could be few occasions when the whole team actually got the chance to play as a team. The reason behind this is not because the players chose not to play as a team. The reason is behind the design of the sport.

Baseball and cricket are sports where individual performances can win matches and tournaments. Sometimes a team’s fortunes can depend upon an individual player’s fortunes. This is unlike football. Which is a total team sport. All players must co-operate to win a goal. It does not matter how good the striker is. The striker is as good as the team.

So how does one make players in non-team sports play as a team?

There are ways to do it. Here are some.

Setting objectives
When in discussion with players, setting objectives can make the team realize what they are playing for. Some players might be playing for personal goals more than team goals. It can happen in such sport, where individuals stand out more than the team.

Preparing plans
In sports that have less team-participation, team spirit can be imbibed by preparing a plan or a script. A win can be drafted on paper. Different players can be given different roles. Care must be taken not to compromise the player’s ability with the role. The whole team should be treated like a family, where each member has a role to do. While one player can hold the fort, the other can attack. Such strategies can imbibe team spirit.

Many people are making the switch from purchasing expensive clothing items to purchasing discount articles of clothing. While many articles of clothing such as t-shirts, jeans and socks can be purchased from a discount retailer, some types of clothing like athletic clothing should still be purchased at expensive retailers.

Here’s a look at why fashion experts recommend you purchase your athletic clothing from expensive retailers.

Longer Lasting

Image via Wikipedia

Clothing like ADIDAS or Nike Clothes are made to last. Unlike cheaper versions that wear and tear after a few times in the wash or after wearing them a number of times, expensive athletic clothing can be worn a number of times and last longer before it starts to fall apart.

Saves You Money

The longer an article of clothing lasts the less you have to spend on replacing that clothing item. Due to the fact that you will only be replacing articles of clothing every once in a while with expensive brands you will end up saving money because you aren’t having to shop as often to replace your athletic clothing.

Healthier For You

Expensive athletic clothing can be healthier for you. Some of the name brand athletic clothing comes with some great features like offering athletic support or keeping the body cool to prevent overheating when working out. These features can benefit not only your athletic performance but could keep you healthier.

Next time you are trying to save money on clothing keep in mind the many benefits you can receive when you purchase expensive athletic clothing.

Regular aerobic exercise is important to your overall health. You will manage your weight, increase your energy levels and help prevent chronic illnesses later in life. Strength training is another component of fitness that should be adopted into your overall program. Just two to three sessions per week can help you increase lean muscle mass while preventing diseases such as osteoporosis.

However, many people drop their exercise routines at some point in their life. This is attributed to a number of reasons. Some of the most common causes is boredom, a lack of challenge and frequent injuries. A personal trainer can help solve these issues and get your fitness program back on track. Trainers are available at health clubs and some are also contract workers who can come to your home or office.

A personal trainer plays a few major roles in your fitness regime. The most popular reason they are sought after is to help exercisers reach the next level in training. A trainer will help you safely plan how you need to get to your desired level of fitness. Along with making sure you increase your fitness level, at trainer will oversee your workouts to make sure that you don’t overexert yourself. In addition, he can work with your doctor to evaluate what programs are safest based on your personal medical history.

Hiring a personal trainer is a big commitment, but usually worth the time and money invested. Before hiring a trainer, ensure that you will stick with your program. Also keep in mind that contracted trainers are more expensive than those at health clubs.

Fitness is essential for your overall health. Aside from weight maintenance, regularly exercise increases blood circulation and improves the overall function of your heart and lungs. It may not be easy for an exercise newbie to start out fresh with a fitness program. In fact, it becomes increasingly more difficult to start exercising the older you get. This is primarily due to the fact that your body is not accustomed to exercise. Plus, not having incorporated regular exercise into your lifestyle will make working out seem more like a chore. For these reasons, it is important for exercise to be a prominent part of your family’s lifestyle.

It is important to encourage children to exercise so that they are more likely to want to continue working out later in life. You may first want to make over your own fitness routine. It is difficult to enforce a lifestyle with exercise if you as a parent aren’t a regular exerciser. Consider how exercise can improve the vitality of both you and your children, and make an effort to work out regularly.

Young children don’t have to be placed on a training schedule. Exercise should be fun at any stage, but especially for young children. Think of group activities, such as hiking, swimming and sports. Even taking a group walk will do the whole family good. As your children get older, you can encourage them to step up their routines by suggesting team sports. Be careful not to force the idea, as this might turn children off from exercise all together.

Athletes spend a lot of time training to become the best they can be at their chosen sport. The problem is that some athletes can take training to seriously. When the training is taken too seriously it can turn sport that you love into something that you absolutely hate because you are too involved with it.

Luckily, sports experts have come up with some tips on how to avoid turning training into a chore.

Take Time out for What You Love

While sports might always be your number one favorite activity is important to take time to enjoy other activities. Whether it is sitting and reading a book, drawing, or trying to win one of the huge online casino bonuses you should try to incorporate it into your training schedule. This change of pace allows you to not become so obsessed with your chosen sport that you end up hating it or dread training for it.

Change up Your Training Routine

Sometimes athletes can become bored with their training which causes them to dread their training. To avoid becoming bored with your training routine try to change it up. A change in a training routine could be as simple as training outside in a park instead of in an enclosed gym, or as complex as trying a whole new strength training routine. These changes can help keep boredom away from your training routine.

When you are training to be the best athlete you can be you have to love what you do. Incorporating these items into your training routine will allow you to keep loving your chosen sport while training to be the best.

Coaching

1. Coaching Requires Skills

Good coaches motivate and educate. Great coaches teach skills for getting through the game of life, while developing and maintaining your craft. What you do while playing the game is only half of developing craft. Coaches work on developing talent raw and in veterans. A good coach leads by example and has stats and the reputation to back her up.

2. Coaching Commitments
Making a commitment to coach involves being on call kind of like a doctor. In team sports you are accountable for a group succeeding or failing. Coaching can be a great or a horrible thing depending on stats, history, and expectations for the current season. Coaches put in extra hours by sheer nature of the business. Practices, games, and when applicable championships all cost in time and sometimes travel. Coaches sometimes spend more time with their teams than with their families.

3. Coaches and Respect

Coaches are authority figures and beget respect by virtue of their title. A good coach is fair, honest, and appreciated. A coach worth his salt can quiet a locker room full of high school teens with a stern look without ever having to utter a word. His strategies for winning always include sportsmanship like conduct, and when he loses he does so graciously. His players respect him for his fairness and expectations of hard work and playing with integrity.

4. Time-Outs

There are times when being placed in time-out may seem unfair to players and their cheering section. Understanding may have to come later during the post-game discussion. A coach reserves the right to bench, suspend and revoke playing privileges because he or she can. Great lessons are taught in time out. Patience and humility come to mind as jewels earned while being benched. Coaches understand the necessity of repeating drills character building. A time-out is sometimes enough time to think about an alternate way of looking at a situation for a more positive outcome.

Volunteerism

1. Service Volunteers

Volunteering as a way of service is a great way to give back to the community. There are many opportunities to make the world a better place and volunteering is always a list topper. Volunteers are needed and appreciated for giving the gift of caring.

2. Resources for Volunteers

Community boards or a quick surf of the Internet will lead you to local opportunities. Expect a background search for opportunities that involve children or where you may need to be bonded. Opportunities where you deal with money, medical information and other sensitive information may require that you be significantly screened before being brought on board. The most common reason for this is to protect companies from lawsuits.

3. Volunteerism Calls for Integrity

When you sign on to volunteer for service whether the effort meets personal goals or you are court appointed to serve, placement calls that you remember that you are there in the capacity of a guest until you prove yourself. Use of office equipment and files should be treated with care. No Internet surfing unless you’re doing research for the agency. In that same light, telephones should only be used for company business. Your cell phone should be used on personal breaks and at lunch. You never know when a volunteer opportunity may turn into something with pay. Your integrity may be what turns your volunteer opportunity a job.

4. Reporting for Duty

Your first day of service should be memorable. Smiles of thanks and welcome generally come with the territory. If you find yourself in a busy placement that handles crisis like a hospital don’t take it personal if you aren’t given a parking space, and company recognition during your first few days. Occupations that deal with life threatening situations or where productivity is clocked may not be able to handle much more than a brief introduction if people are engaged in their jobs. Your presence and service is appreciated as you will find out at on Volunteer Recognition Day.

Receiving an athletic scholarship is probably the most popular avenue that professional football and basketball players take to get started in their careers. While it is not the only way to join the pros, it is generally the easiest. After all, with the visibility of college sports, recruiters don’t have to look far to see who the standout players are. College players that make the news are often household names, and people want to see more of these players once their college careers are over.

But there are other ways to become a professional athlete. Not everyone receives a scholarship – some students are paying their own way and simply join the team as a walk-on. Smaller schools may not even offer scholarships, but highly talented players can still make a name for themselves.

Other scholarship recipients in less popular sports can still launch their careers at the college level. In sports such as wrestling, track, swimming or even shooting sports, athletes may qualify for the Olympics during their college years, which can provide an extraordinary opportunity. Although the competition is fierce, the Olympics are so highly visible that a virtual nobody can become a household name literally overnight. An athlete does not even need to be a gold medalist to gain instant recognition.

But even for those who dream of competing professionally, injuries and other life events can make this impossible. A sports scholarship can still help make a college degree affordable. By choosing the right major and making the right connections, students can still have a sports-related career after graduation. The key is to make the best use of every opportunity that a scholarship presents. Many go one to become broadcasters, journalists, commentators, coaches, and even sports doctors and lawyers.

How do athletes and former athletes manage to make tens of millions of dollars through related business opportunities? The answer is that they usually have a good agent working for them. When looking for an agent, it’s important to find someone who is not only experienced in finding and negotiating viable business opportunities, but also in knowing what can go wrong and working to protect your best interests.

It seems as though an athletic career paying millions of dollars per year in salary should be a great opportunity that can set a person up for life. Unfortunately, many athletes think it is just that, and soon find themselves in financial trouble. This is where a good sports agent can make a difference. Competent agents realize that athletic careers are relatively short compared to other lines of work. Because a person does not usually play a sport for 30 or 40 years like a traditional career, they don’t receive millions of dollars in income for that amount of time either.

Agents can find money-generating opportunities, and can negotiate contracts that provide residual income for a longer period of time. These can include everything from endorsements, public speaking engagements, book deals, advertising, licensed merchandise and even commentating or acting opportunities. While many athletes feel they can strike these deals on their own and may hesitate at paying an agent’s fee, the fact is that there are many multi-millionaire athletes who file for bankruptcy due to bad business deals, fishy investment opportunities and failure to read the fine print.

Good agents are familiar with “opportunities” that prey on people who find themselves suddenly wealthy. A competent and trustworthy agent can make the difference between a career as an athlete and an opportunity that can provide residual income for life.

Athletic scholarships are a necessity for colleges: There is no other way for schools with the top teams to recruit the best players without providing financial assistance in return. When colleges can recruit the best of the best, they can keep their teams performing well, which is important to colleges on many levels.

College sports generate millions of dollars in revenue. Not only are ticket and merchandise sales important, but successful sports teams keep a college’s reputation high. This means that they can always recruit not only the best athletes, but a higher caliber of students as well.

Successful sports teams and all that are associated with them (for instance, marching bands and coaches) help colleges maintain their visibility and reputation. Without being able to recruit top talent, sports programs would quickly cease to be the draw that they are. When players go on to achieve success in professional sports, it improves the school’s reputation. For this reason, colleges can have deep pockets when it comes to making scholarship offers to those who show exceptional promise.

Another reason colleges are willing to foot the bill for top athletes is to maintain their relationships with alumni. Alumni are some of the largest supporters of college sports. Outside of tuition payments, alumni are also one of higher education’s largest sources of income. Many alumni donate millions to their alma maters when they have successful seasons. Colleges also know that when a former student graduates and starts earning a significant income, it is very likely that he or she will also make significant donations. The college then receives a substantial return on its investment in student athletes. While colleges don’t necessarily rely on donations from their athletic alumni, they are usually the most visible and enthusiastic spokespeople in the sports community.

For those who love the daily involvement with athletes and the game, an appropriate career path might be coaching or training. Positions such as these usually require some sort of sports credential such as high achievement (holding a record, being known as an innovator, winning a championship) but not always. Some people find they have a gift for assisting others effectively even though they were not necessarily a star player. Coaching positions at the high school level usually require a degree in education or other teaching credentials.

Sports management is another option for those who love the world of sports but who do not necessarily want to earn their living as an athlete. A background in sports is helpful as well as a degree in business or marketing for those who want to work in promotion, marketing, management or other administrative positions. Specialized degrees such as law degrees and MBAs can lead to lucrative positions as agents, contract lawyers and others who deal with high-profile issues.

Those with a scientific or technical interest are often drawn to careers in sports medicine, which can be anything from treating injuries, rehabilitation or training and nutrition. People with degrees and experience in sports medicine are sought after not only to assist athletes directly, but also for positions in product research and development. These products can include sports equipment, nutritional supplements, specialized clothing, or developing educational materials and curricula.

Sports merchandise is a billion dollar industry with virtually no limits for someone who is creative, innovative and has a passion for sports. Many people have forged sports-related careers working for international companies or creating their own line of products. These could include licensed products marketed to the public, or products designed by and for athletes. With a bit of creative thinking, almost any educational background can be turned into a sports-related career.

Sporting Event Etiquette for Parents

1. It is very easy to get emotional when your kid is on the field and you’re watching intensely from the bench. Etiquette at sporting events is not a given. Parents have been banned from games and for poor behavior. Sporting event etiquette helps kids see that they are supported regardless of whether they hit the winning run or strike out.

2. Mind Your Conversation

A display of good etiquette includes watching what we say while we cheer Junior on from the stands. Mumbling obscenities about the opposing team or their coach is not good etiquette. Cheering your kid on is always good acknowledging good plays by other kids shows you’re not creating a sports monster in your household.

3. Bring Healthy and Tasty Treats

Parents know that with group activities comes the need for snacks. When it is your turn bring good treats that are healthy. Kids will drink just about anything a cooler with reduced sugar or better yet ice cold water are healthy choices. Fruit provides natural sugar and stave off hunger until the after game pit stop for the pizza.

4. Carpools

One way to reserve time and energy is to carpool with other parents. This way you are not doing all the driving and the responsibility rotates. Etiquette in this situation demands that you mark your calendar for all sporting related events and activities that your kid participates in along, with any associated cost. If you simply have to cancel when it is your turn to pick up kids that don’t live with you and you’re going to be late or have to cancel make contact. It is important to communicate when you’re the driver.

5. Sports Etiquette

It may sound corny, but good sports etiquette can be good for the entire family. Talking about the game afterwards and making sure your kid knows that he is supported for every bad throw and caught ball alike, is real life etiquette inclusive of sports.

For many people in our fast-paced American society, having an activity to do on a regular basis that allows you to unwind is crucial to staying focused and efficient in life. Among one of the most popular and like ways that people tend to go when looking for a way to unwind is by participating in America’s favorite pastime: sports. Americans have been enjoying sports for many decades, and with the advances in technology and an increase of innovative products readily available, there are more ways to enjoy the big game than ever before. Here are the most popular:

Solo in Recliner

Going this route is probably one of the most relaxing; enjoying the game alone while kicking back in a favorite recliner. This method of watching the big game is probably the most stereotypical, but it does not stop it from being one of the most popular nonetheless.

Throw a Party

One of the more popular ways to watch major sporting events is to have a party or gathering of friends and colleagues. These situations are prime for creating a fun, social atmosphere while simultaneously enjoying every aspect of the game as it unfolds. Some people go the route of providing items such as custom poker tables to gather around and play a few hands during a commercial break, or even throughout the game to promote a more engaging atmosphere.

Online Live Streams

Since the inception of the Internet, many things have been made available via a computer. Over the past decade, the concept of viewing sporting events has become a favorite among these readily available items. People can watch their favorite sporting events as they are streamed live online, or catch them after the fact if they were too busy to watch them live.

From classic to innovative, these are the most common ways people enjoy watching sports.

One of the best ways for students to boost their chances of receiving a sports scholarship is to think of it in athletic terms – in other words, treat it as you would any other competition. This means applying athletic principles such as goal setting, developing a strategy and following through with discipline.

There is always a certain percentage of players who are offered scholarships based solely on their athletic abilities. However, another group receives scholarships because they are able to break down the process and score well on other areas of the application. These students understand that colleges are usually looking for other talents and abilities in addition to skills on the field.

Determining what a college is looking for should be the first line of attack. It should go without saying that even though they want accomplished athletes, they also recruit students who demonstrate that they are likely to succeed in school and who will build good community relations. Candidates should keep this in mind when choosing extracurricular and community service activities. Not only do they help sway scholarship committees, but applicants can develop relationships with people who can provide letters of recommendation for colleges. Strategizing about the most effective experiences and influential references can help give an applicant an edge over someone who simply goes through the motions and hopes for the best.

Of course, good grades are always helpful. When student athletes participate in more than one sport or activity, it can be difficult to give athletics and academics their full effort. This is another example of how strategizing can improve the outcome. Develop a game plan for how to fit all your responsibilities into a limited amount of time. It might be necessary to come up with a written schedule, but a disciplined athlete should find it no problem to stick to a regimen that will lead to greater results.

A full-ride sports scholarship can mean a free ticket to college, an all-expenses paid trip to a four year degree. After adding up the cost of four years of college tuition, dorms, meal cards and books, it is almost like getting paid thousands of dollars to play one’s favorite sport for four years.

Players who are the best of the best may have several offers and may have to determine which offer is going to give them the greatest long-term benefit in terms of a sports career.

For athletes who are not at the very top, but are still very good, playing in the most prestigious divisions may be out of reach. At best, athletes may receive a scholarship in the division they want but not at their first choice school. Likewise, they may be offered a scholarship at a college in the geographic area they prefer, but not within the conference they would like.

Finally, there are athletes who were standouts at the high school and state level who will not be competitive at NCAA or Division 1 colleges. This does not necessarily mean that sports can’t pay their way through college. These students may have their choice of smaller local schools, which can still result in a professional career.

Not everyone who gets an athletic scholarship will become a professional athlete. While most pro football and basketball players take this path, there is no hard and fast rule that says this is the only way to go pro. There are a number of pros who went to small schools and received no scholarship at all. If playing sports professionally is the goal, it’s important to start the research process early and to carefully evaluate the odds of being a competitive player at the desired level.

A triathlon requires some of the most intense physical experiences of a lifetime. Each and every person has a unique perspective on how important this competition is, but for most, it is a situation requiring every bit of physical power you have. To improve your ability to perform at your best level, invest in specialized triathlon gear.

The Bike

One of the most important pieces of triathlon gear is the bike itself. While this is only one leg of the competition, the features of the bike make a big difference in your success level. Here are a few ways these bikes can better fit your body.

Manufacturers creating customized bikes will cut and measure these bikes to the rider’s body. This way, each area of the bike fits the rider ideally.

The bike’s handlebars fit your needs, too. With the right location and design of the handlebars, you can become more aerodynamic in your performance.

Even the small details make a big difference. The bike’s water bottle location, for example, can be fit to your body’s needs in terms of location and design.

While bikes are an important component to your performance, it’s also important to select other types of triathlon gear with care. Select the right swimsuits, for example, to increase your speed and physical ability to perform. Even the right cycling shoes and shoelaces play a role in your success in this competition.

You can find all of the gear you need at a specialized triathlon store. These facilities work with you to custom design a bike or other gear for your particular needs. This way, when you hit the competition’s starting line, you are doing so with the best overall setup possible. You will find these events to be physically demanding, but that is what makes them so worthwhile. With the right equipment, your body can perform at its highest level possible, moving you forward.

Strategies for Success

1. Strategizing Pays

Effectively strategizing to achieve goals can have great pay offs. Problem solving is an area requiring specific goals and an evaluation process that includes possible outcomes for success. We can’t plan every detail of our lives, but we can plan to be successful and strategize for our meeting our goals.

2. Watching Successful Strategist

Finding people who are doing what we want to do and modeling some of their positive attributes can help us reach our goals. Most successful people have a mantra. They follow a creed of success that requires that they employ a certain skill set. This generally includes being focused and clear about commitment and follow through.

3. Solo Strategies

One successful strategy for success involves a solo effort. Learning to think in the solitude of a quiet space isn’t always easy but, like the good life it something often desired. Life can be hectic and many of us are unaware of just how busy we are. Many of us operate on auto pilot doing very little to recharge. This makes strategizing difficult. The good life shouldn’t be something you wait endless for. Planning, hard work, and enjoying the fruits of your labor should happen in this life.

4. Dream Big

Successful people do thing big. Strategizing offers you the opportunity to create a big wall map with all of your dreams, desires, needs and wants in print with bold markers, and stickers. A bigger house in another part of the country, map it out. Does your vision include fabulous and wonderful things that you don’t dare write down? You can’t dare not to. Your dreams have a better chance of being recognized if you can see them. So dream big, wide, and far. Stretch your imagination and go for all that you deserve. Successful strategist dream big and show up adding to their odds of success.

Online betting is an appealing way to place bets. You don’t have to take time to drive somewhere to place your bet. You can do it in the comfort of your home. Here are some tips on how to select the right online sportsbook.

First, talk to your friends who have placed bets. Find out the services that they use. Ask them if they have had any bad experiences with any of them. When you hear some of their horror stories, make sure you learn from them and don’t do the same thing.

Second, make sure that the sportsbook that you select makes payments. Make sure that their payments are made in a timely manner. You don’t want to have to wait months and months to receive your money.

Do not use sportsbooks that charge a fee. You should be allowed at least one withdrawal a month that does not have a fee attached to it. Carefully read the fine print because some places charge for dollars for every withdrawal!

Research various online sportsbooks. You can read sportsbook reviews and user experiences to help you determine which one would work best for you. But be cautious about the reviews. Some sites have paid reviews and aren’t trustworthy. Make sure the reviews are by independent sources and not connected to the sportsbook in anyway.

Be wary of the signup bonuses. Some online sportsbooks make outstanding promises for signing up. Generally speaking, the higher the signing bonus is for new members the more desperate the sportsbook is.

Another thing that you need to be aware of is the commission charged. You want to understand it because this can cost you a lot of money over time.

One of the best places to go to get information is to join a sports betting forum. You can ask questions about different sportsbooks and get people’s opinions on what is the best one to use.

The Summer Olympics is an exciting event to attend. Occurring every four years it has had spectators on the edge of their chairs for years. Having many different sports that are included in the Olympics there is something here for everyone. Weather you like rough sports or mild sports nobody will cease to amaze you in this expert competition.

The Olympic games were founded by Pierre Freddy in 1894, although the first edition of the games weren’t held until 1896. In Athens, Greece, the first games were a competition of only 245 competitors and 14 countries. Even with the small number of countries that participated it was a great event as there had never been an international event that been organized like this before.

The International Olympic Committee organized the Olympics as we know them in 1904, but the Ifs (International Sporting Federations) determines the qualification rules for each sporting event. National Olympic Committees may enter a limited amount of competitors in each event, and then whittles the decisions down from there.

When you hear about the Olympics what do you think about? Do you think of track and field? Do you think of volleyball? How about tennis? Well in the summer Olympics there have been a different number of sports that combine to be the popular event that is the Olympics today. Some of these sports include:

Archery

Athletics

Badminton

Basketball

Beach volleyball

Boxing

Canoeing

Cycling

Diving

Fencing

Football

Golf

Gymnastics

Handball

Field hockey

Judo

Modern pentathlon

Rowing

Rugby

Sailing

Shooting

Swimming

Synchronized swimming

Table tennis

Taekwondo

Tennis

Triathlon

Volleyball

Weightlifting

Wrestling

Betting on sports is a fun little enterprise, and it goes a whole lot deeper than just betting on who will win or lose a specific contest. There are actually a whole lot of different methods of placing bets, especially in an online casino. If you have never done this before, you have plenty of catching up to do on the different types of bets you can place.

From parlays to teasers, and if bets to goal line bets, you have plenty of different ways to potentially win plenty of money through the bets that you place. After all, the more different types of bets you place, the better off you can be, provided luck is on your side and you put some thought into the bets you place.

A parlay is a series of bets in which you win, and they you reinvest your winnings into future possible wins. If you put all of your money on one bet, this is the best way to win the largest amount of money- if it works. However, if you want to hedge against the possibility of losing a bet or two (it happens), you can do what is called teasing — where you place part of your money on multiple events, and let your wins cover your losses. Like a turtle, it can slowly and steadily win over time.

If you are watching a sport which has a goal line, a puck line or a run line, you can place goal line bets. These are not just about who is going to win, but are also about the specific point difference (or spread) between the winning and losing teams. There is also a style which is known as-if betting, which specifies that if your first bet has a certain outcome, you will take a certain action; but if it goes another way, you will take a different one. Rather like logic, different outcomes have different results.

There are many kids who think they’re super athletes because they’ve taught themselves a few tricks. Maybe they’ve learned to slam dunk. Maybe they kick a soccer ball seventy yards. However, those amazing feats don’t mean anything if the kid lacks any real skills. Good coaches focus on basic skills.

A good coach is not fooled by an athlete that slam dunks but can’t shoot a free throw or pass a ball. A soccer goal keeper who kicks the ball eighty yards right to a defender isn’t much help to his team. Of course, kids don’t want to spend all of their practice time doing the boring stuff, but a coach who insists on hours of basic skills training will produce a winning team. Running drills is boring to everyone. However, they teach muscle memory and coordination. They improve accuracy. They also instill discipline in the players.

Kids aren’t much on concentration, so they really have to make the skills of a game second nature. If your players are thinking about how to complete a basic pass while holding off a defender, they’re probably making too many errors to win a game. If your star player keeps refusing to rely on basic skills, then bench him. Whether he’s on the court or off the court, the team won’t be winning. Bench him until he learns his basic skills.

Most team sports can’t rely on one well rounded, skilled player to win the game. Every team member has to be proficient. There also needs to be depth on the bench. Not everyone will be a natural athlete, so it’s the coach’s responsibility to get everyone strong in their basic skills. When the defending team sees that your team has depth and skill, you’ll definitely have the psychological edge if nothing else. More than likely, you’ll also have the winning edge.

When we think of sports professionals, we think of major league players and coaches. However, sports professionals do more than play and coach. If you think about major sporting events and everything that is going on there, you can bet there’s something in it for you.

Sporting events require all facets of professionals. There are accountants, marketers, retailers, maintenance supervisors, contractors, writers, reporters, volunteer coordinators, security personnel, and many more. For instance, someone is running the food and drink concessions. In fact, it’s possible that those concessions are owned by a private entrepreneur. The earning potential is only limited by how much food and supplies you can keep on hand during the event.

If you’re a sports fan with professional aspirations that don’t require physical fitness, you might look into accounting or marketing as an education choice. Before graduating, volunteer with a large event like The Olympics or other large sporting event that uses volunteers. You’ll have the education and experience to excel as a different kind of sports professional. With good marketing and merchandising skills, you can make a great living selling t-shirts and souvenirs.

If you’re good with your hands or good with math, consider construction or engineering as a professional path. Someone designs and builds all of those great sports facilities. Get a job on a construction crew for one of these operations so that you can get hands on knowledge and understanding. Wouldn’t it be cool to tell your kids that you built the biggest and newest football stadium in America?

Law enforcement is very important for professional sporting events. You might excel at security in large, public events. Crowd control and traffic control are key to making a big game run smoothly. And we all know that tempers can fly when the game gets heated. Of course terror concerns are ever present, too. Security professionals are the behind the scenes heroes at professional sporting events.

Coaching can be a rewarding career at any level. However, in order to teach in a school setting there are coaching education requirements. If professional coaching is in your future plans, you’ll likely start out at a junior high or high school. That means that along with your coaching certificate, you’ll be expected to teach an academic course, too.

If coaching is your primary goal, then you will need to find a school that offers degrees in majors such as kinesiology, nutrition, fitness, sports medicine or physical education. You’ll also need to find a minor in an academic area you would like to teach in. In some cases, you will be required to have playing experience in the sport you will be coaching. You need extreme knowledge of the game you are coaching.

Along with coaching education requirements, coaches need to have good communication and leadership skills. A coach is more than a teacher. He is a mentor, a cheerleader, and a motivator. As an entry level coach, you may find that your leadership ability is more important than your knowledge of the game. That’s because it’s unlikely you’ll be given a group of champions as your first coaching job.

Another aspect to coaching is that you will be putting in really long hours. You’ll have after school practices, late games on weeknights, and tournaments on weekends. You might be required to drive the bus, too! Along with teaching an academic class, you can expect to make about $28,000 the first year for all of your work. Needless to say, coaches are dedicated people who believe in kids and the power of athletics to transform them into productive adults.

If the ultimate goal is to coach for a professional team, know that it takes years of experience and a strong winning record at the lower ranks of coaching.

America is a great, big, fat country. Even our children are dangerously obese. We need more team sports that require agility, speed and endurance. More soccer in America, please! There are some people who actually call this game un-American. That’s true if Americans are proud of their waistlines. Frankly, soccer needs to be the next Little League, with chapters in every town, big and small.

One game of soccer burns between 400 and 500 calories, depending on the size of the player. A game lasts about 50 minutes. There children sitting in front of televisions who consume that many calories in 50 minutes instead of burning them. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease are so prevalent in the obese that it is predicted that today’s generation of youth will be the first generation with a shorter lifespan than their parents. Kids simply don’t play outside anymore.

If outdoor play has become too scary, then an organized sport, like soccer can take its place. Soccer not only gets those kids in shape, it teaches them about working as a team. Soccer is a great game for this. It is a game that cannot be won by individual players. No matter how talented the athlete, he cannot advance the ball and kick a goal alone. Soccer teams that figure out how to pass the ball to each other and work together are champion teams.

Communication is key to winning, too. A soccer team has to talk to each other while playing. Kids who spend all of their time on computers aren’t improving their communication skills like they should. A fast game of soccer can improve that, too.

Soccer is inexpensive to play, so all kids can participate. The payoff will be huge. All American kids should be introduced to the game and given the chance to excel in a fast, healthy team sport that is loved all over the world.

Baseball is one of the earliest sports that was offered to children in a community forum. Little League has been a part of millions of people’s lives. Whether it’s a proud dad sitting in the bleachers, or an insecure child learning to hold a bat for the first time, the game of baseball is so much more than a sport. There is a right way to approach baseball, and it starts at the youth level.

Baseball is a game that doesn’t change much as an individual advances from Little League to the pros. Therefore, it is about sustainability of the player in many ways. The wrong type of youth coach can ruin a lifelong enjoyment of baseball for youngster if the message he’s sending causes the child to either get injured or lose confidence in his ability.

Coaches on the youth level need to remember that these are young kids with developing bodies and minds, and what is implanted in the psyche in childhood can carry itself well into adulthood. Even so, coaches, and sometimes over zealous parents, still say the worst possible things. The right way to approach baseball is through positive encouragement, gentle teaching and information sharing and expectations that match the real ability of the child. Baseball is dubbed “America’s Game,” and that invokes images of hot dogs, happy families and children of all abilities playing the game.

If a coach recognizes real talent at the Little League level, that is no reason to start pushing a child beyond his natural development. Many promising athletic futures have been ruined by a pushy, “win at all costs” coach. It’s a disservice to the game and especially the child. A good coach will recognize when a kid is over doing it, and instruct him to ease off a little. A young pitcher has an arm that has to last him well into his fourties if he actually has promise as a professional player.

Managing Team Sports and Family Obligations

1. Count on a Schedule Conflict

You can almost bet that your perfectly planned sports activity calendar will be challenged just when you’re ready to cap your dry erase marker and grab a congratulatory protein bar. You look closely your much needed family time overlaps with the end of the regular season. As luck would have it your daughter’s team is in first place.

2. Life Lessons

Being part of a team means your daughter has responsibility to herself and to her teammates. When she signed on to participate a contract was entered. You help her learn to honor her obligations when you ensure that she keeps her word. Sounds great but what to do? If the cost of moving your famil y time and pre-scheduled activities proves too much you may have to get creative. With enough planning time you may be able to work out a win-win situation

3. Staying Sane in the Sports Zone

Scheduling around the activities of one kid can sometimes cause a parent to scream. Add more than one kid to the mix and you can just feel the unconscious tug in your gut letting you know that you will need a body double at least twice a week. Finding parents who can help with sports activities and carpooling support can give you a much needed breather.

4. Eating on the Run

As much as you want sit down to dinner as a family having kids actively involved in sports can take away from your sit- down- together time. Packing insulated baggies of fresh fruits, veggies, and crackers can help balance some of the dinner- on-the-fly nights. Stocking up on bottled water for your trunk can alleviate the need for soda stops each time you stop for gas on the way to a sports activity. Setting limits while remaining flexible with healthy snacks on hand can make planning easier.

Coaches are always learning and looking for ways to improve their teaching skills as well as improve their teams. In some cases, the coaches are youth oriented, so their mission may be more about team development and mentoring children than winning. Seminars are expensive. Therefore, online coaching resources can be a huge help to the coach who wants to continue to improve.

There are so many different kinds of sports that require so many different skill sets from a coach. For someone like a high school coach, it may be expected that the individual will coach multiple sports. If the coach has strengths in one or two areas, but finds that some of the job requirements are in other areas, online coaching resources may be the fastest way to improve skill sets and the knowledge base.

Rules of the game are very easily found via websites. The LA84 Foundation is an organization dedicated to coaches in the Los Angeles area, but the resources provided there apply to coaches anywhere. For instance, there are free articles on reducing ACL injuries. There are also downloadable coaching manuals in soccer, baseball, volleyball, and basketball. They even provide a manual for coaches who teach aquatic sports. Coaching clinics are offered at this organization’s website, too.

There are also free online workshops at other web locations. Some of those include subjects on how to think and act like a champion, how to make better coaching decisions and what can be expected of coaches. In the youth and amateur field of coaching, these kinds of subjects can help a coach keep a good relationship with the community he or she represents. Online coaching resources will guide the conscientious coach to just about any subject or concern that might come up. If the individual is part of a community organization that interacts with local youth, the coach can even learn about new sports that are recommended for children in that community.

There’s big money in sports. So many athletes are making staggering salaries, and their fans want to how that happens. It’s especially interesting when someone who is not perceived to be as good as another athlete gets signed for more money. It happens because there’s a good sports agent making a great salary doing the negotiating.

Sports agents are often lawyers, so they know the ins and outs of contracts. Others may go to school to learn the business. Either way, the best sports agent has to have the personality to convince a club owner that his player is worth a large sum of money. The agent’s cut will probably be about three percent of the salary. Depending on the sport, that could mean as much as a million dollars for signing one player.

The big deal is not so common, so the sports agent’s great salary is usually produced because he represents several players. Sometimes a player may start in a minor league, but the agent can start to negotiate a move to the major league. If a sports agent is committed, and the athlete is too, their relationship can really pay off for both of them.

Once the player is signed to a team for the great salary, the sports agent isn’t finished. He’ll continue to look for better deals with other teams. The negotiation is non-stop. The agent will also start to negotiate endorsements with different product lines. Think about how much money Michael Jordan’s agent is making after signing the basketball legend to the Nike campaign. Today, Air Jordan is a household name, and there’s a sports agent making a great salary off of that deal.

Sports agents also negotiate public appearances for the athlete. Even if the agent has one big star, he shouldn’t stop there. Anything can happen that will cause that athlete to get dropped, and the great salary for both the player and the agent will disappear.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a modern fight sport that uses different fighting types, such as wrestling and striking. Also known as “cage fighting” in the US, it is one of many rapidly growing sports all over the world. The credit for popularity of MMA largely belongs to UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), a promoting organization for MMA. In fact the name cage fighting is given to MMA due to the octagonal cage fighting, first organized by UFC.

When the UFC had organized the first game of MMA in 1993, the rules were bare minimum. However, towards the end of 1990s, the rules were made stricter for safety and security of the MMA fighters. Even clothing rules for MMA are strict. As a result various MMA clothing brands, such as Tapout have become very popular. Brands such as Tapout are not only used by players, but have become a style statement among the younger generation.

Many state commissions have incorporated rules for MMA. Some of the main rules are listed below –

Every round lasts for five minutes with a rest time of one minute between two consecutive rounds. A title tournament has five rounds while there are only three rounds on a non-title game.

There is specific dress code for fighters. They have to battle in shorts without any shoes, footers, or lengthy pants. MMA clothing brand like Tapout manufacture clothes that are abide by the rules of the game.

Elbow striking technique is permitted in MMA.

Every match of MMA uses a 10-point system. Winner of every round gets 10 points and players get five point each if the round is a draw. The minimum scoring point in New Jersey is seven.

These rules vary according to place. However, the basic rules for weight, clothing, and techniques remain more or less similar all over the world.

For many students, the only way out of poverty is through their athletic talent. A sports scholarship can be a ticket to a new life for a poor kid who wants to go to college. Whether it’s Division I or Junior College, the athlete who excels in sports and in his studies can get his college education paid for.

Sports scholarships often give the first person in a family a chance to go to college. Many people may dream of rising above their situation, but they may have no means of achieving their goals. Unless a child living in poverty is at the top of his class in academics, he may not have any other scholarship options. The athlete can be the one to make his family proud.

Athletics teach discipline and character. When a student is awarded an athletic scholarship, the school that signs him on has a high expectation of the kind of behavior the student will exhibit. The school wants to know that the athlete will keep is grades satisfactory, and it wants to know that the athlete will represent the college in a positive light. Therefore, the athlete has to do more than be a star on the playing field or court. He has to be a gentleman who won’t embarrass the people paying for his education. Part of this responsibility falls on the high school.

Many great athletes come from impoverished and dysfunctional families. If the school is committed to the kid, then the kid has to decide to be committed to the school. Basically, the sports scholarship can be a ticket to a new life, but it isn’t a free ride. To lead a star athlete to believe that he is beyond reproach is to set that student up for a lifetime of failure and disappointment. A great player with no character has no future.

The marathon is a brutal race. For just over 26 miles, the body is taking a beating from the soles of the feet to the competition inside the head. The marathoner’s mental game is really what gets him over the finish line. These long distance runners spend enormous amounts of time training and running and preparing for this brutal race, so a mental strategy has to be in place to guarantee that all that hard work pays off.

It’s not recommended that a marathoner run more than 20 miles prior to the actual race. Some more experienced runners will push to the 22 or 23 mile mark on their long training run, but as a rule, the whole distance should only be run on the day of the race. Certainly, as one works up to running 20 miles during training, they’re also trying to perfect a mental game. But on the day of the big race, it’s all going to change.

To begin with, there could be as many as 30,000 runners at the starting line. Just getting through the crowd and to the actual starting line once the gun is fired can be frustrating and panicky. This situation has to be figured into the marathoner’s mental game. It’s about patience and accepting that the first few miles will mean a slower pace than one might have goaled for.

As the race wears on, the pain creeps into the body. It would be easy to just stop and go home, but the mind has to stay strong. By mile 20, the runner is usually at the so called wall. Energy stores are mostly depleted at that point. The mind could easily give up. After all, the next six miles are mystery to the body. That means the mind has to break each mile, block, and landmark down as a mini goal. As the finish line comes into sight, the victory is all mental joy.

Eating contests are as old as our elementary school days. County fairs and class competitions have long been encouraging us to race through a chocolate pie. Today, people eat for money. The painfully weird sport of competitive eating is getting so popular that it’s losing its weird stigma.

Any glutton or sixteen year old boy thinks he can be a competitive eater. He’ll go searching the internet for a contest featuring his favorite food, but that’s not what the sport of competitive eating is about. In fact, the champions are usually very small people weighing in under 150 pounds. Some women eaters barely weigh 100 pounds! Even as it grows in popularity, it is still a weird way to gain fame.

If nothing else, all that food’s got to come back out. No human body is going to easily process fifty hot dogs that were consumed in twelve minutes. Therefore, the painful part seems like a stupid thing to do. The effects of putting one’s digestive system in that kind of shock just doesn’t make competitive eating all that attractive.

For those who are serious about entering a competitive eating contest, some of the guidelines are as follows. Don’t gorge yourself and then starve yourself to stretch your stomach. Eat normally. Use things like watermelon to gorge if you must. It’s mostly water and will pass on through. Hunger is not the key to winning. It’s about rhythm between the jaw and the throat. Competitive eating champions have perfected the non-stop action of chewing and swallowing at the same time. The whole concept is fascinatingly weird.

Needless to say, the good ol’ fat USA loves this sport, but so does Japan. Is it a penchant for the weird that bonds our countries, or is it just an endless quest for achievement through competition that makes this painfully weird sport so popular? Either way, spectating would be much better than participating.

Coaching is not always about winning. Especially where smaller kids are concerned, being aggressive and victory driven is counter productive. So who makes the best Little League coach? It’s usually the person with the most patience, understanding and love of the game.

Little League coaches need to keep in mind that children join these leagues because they want to play baseball with their friends. Therefore, every kid who joins a team needs to play. In the early stages of the league, children are learning to bat, learning to throw the ball and catch the ball and learning the rules of the game. The coach who finds nine terrific players and benches the rest has done a disservice to the children and also done nothing to build strong players for the future.

Kids can be really annoying. We all know that, so a Little League coach has to have plenty of patience. It’s easy to yell at a kid or bench him, but that’s not the point. The point is to allow participation, teach teamwork and sportsmanship, and give these children positive role models. It’s also about families getting together and watching their children do something safe and healthy.

That being said, parents can be really annoying too. There’s always the dad who thinks he knows it all and completely forgets that it’s a Little League game! He’ll pitch a fit when his kid messes up. He’ll yell at the coach when his kid doesn’t play. He’ll yell at other children and parents, too. A good Little League coach is going to have to confront this guy and diplomatically shut him up. More than likely, the other parents will back up the coach.

Finally, the best Little League coach is full of praise for his team. He doesn’t criticize. He instructs, corrects technique and always praises his team on a job well done; even when they lose.

Not every student athelete can qualify for Division I sports scholarships. These awards are reserved for students with an eye to a professional sports career. They are the top varsity players in their region or state. So what do the rest of the students who need scholarships do? Actually, there are sports scholarships in unlikely places if you’re willing to do your homework.

Certainly, junior colleges, Division II, Division III and other levels of college sports offer scholarships, and many of these schools are as good, if not better than the Division I schools. They could be the ticket for a young athlete looking for sports scholarships in unlikely places. Surprisingly, sports scholarships are cropping up for things that didn’t always pay out for those who participated. Even bowling scholarships are available these days. Obviously, it’s a good idea to keep an eye towards financial aid resources to see what might be out there. Also communicate with high school coaches about sports scholarship opportunities.

There are also sports related scholarships available that don’t require the student to be a superstar. The BigSun Student Athlete Scholarship can be applied for by any student athlete, no matter how good he is. The athlete just needs to write an essay based on a question that will be asked about a sporting experience. Multiple scholarships are awarded.

The Body By Milk campaign is looking for healthy bodies to be models for their campaigns. It might not be a sports scholarship, per se, but it will take an active, fit individual to get this unlikely scholarship. One lucky recepient will get $7500 from the campaign.

The Henry Armstrong foundation awards scholarships to student athletes interested in going into the medical field. Henry Armstrong wanted to be a doctor, so he took up boxing to pay for college. He won several national titles. Now his foundation wants to help other students who must rely on athletics to fund their career aspirations.

Professional sports players salaries vary in size and how they are distributed. Often we hear about the professional athletes that get signed to a team and are paid millions of dollars for one or only a few years of a contract period. In the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) salaries are limited by team, leading to a limit to each individual starting players salary.

For a player drafted into the WNBA, either just out of college or otherwise, the starting salary is just over fifty thousand dollars. That is not a bad amount for a starting job out of college, but what about all the reasons they say professional athletes need to make higher salaries. For instance, the number of years that athlete will play is limited so a higher salary is needed for them to pay bills with such a short career. Another one, the risk of injury is so high it is necessary to pay them as much as possible. And probably the biggest reason, why should the owners and sponsors make all the money when it is the players out on the floor that people come to the game to see. Obviously the women’s league is not as popular today as the men’s league and that is part of the reason for the difference in the salaries of players.

So, for WNBA players it is that much more important to supplement their income. One important way that many players supplement their income is to also play in another league overseas. Many players will play both in the WNBA and a league such as the Euroleague in Europe. In addition to playing multiple leagues, female just like male professional athletes can get sponsorships. Sponsorships are often for supporting or selling a specific product, often sporting products but can be anything. As a WNBA player the game is often about marketing yourself as well as playing basketball.

In an age where kids spend hours playing video games, watching TV and surfing the web it is more important than ever to encourage children to play sports.

Team Building

Sports entourages team building in children. Many times in life your child will need team building skills to get through challenges. School projects and future work situations will go more smoothly for your child if they know how to work as a team player. Soccer, basketball and football are all sports that teach kids to work well with others.

Social Interaction

Kids may thinking they are socializing by sending instant messages and texts to each other, but these cyber situations should not replace face to face interaction. Sports will help your child to get fresh air and exercise well working on social skills with their peers the good old-fashioned way. Children form better bonds and make lasting memories when socializing in person.

Meeting the Right People

When your child is surfing the web, there are a lot of bad people out there. Not only are there pedophiles, but there are also lots of troublesome kids with nothing else to do. Kids who play sports have less free time on their hands. When children are bored, that’s when they have times to wander into dangerous territory such as drugs and having sex too early. When your child engages in sports they are filling their time with a positive activity as well as meeting new friends who are also spending their time in a healthy way.

Keeping Fit

Being too sedentary can cause your child to become overweight. Playing sports is a fun and easy way to burn calories. Using a treadmill or work out bike can seem like a chore for a kid or teen. When kids play sports with their friends, they are working out without even knowing it.

Some highly traditional people have argued that any activity that does not cause its participants to sweat is not really a sport. But those people have obviously never stared across a table at someone who would like to put you in the ground, just because of the cards in your hand. The old west stylings of many gamblers may be masked with modern technology and polite words, but poker is nothing to underestimate. Just because there is no contact necessary doesn’t mean you won’t be sweating when the chips start to stack up (either on your side or his). But poker is about more than just keeping a cool head when you’re surrounded by the enemy.

Poker is a game of style and cunning. You might have the best hand in the world or absolutely nothing of any power, but you still have precisely the same decision to make. Do you dare to bluff everyone else at the table, or do you fold your hand and pay the ante until you get the cards of your dreams? This is the same kind of decision a quarterback on the field has to make. Of course, the quarterback has allies on the field to protect him- and at the poker table, you are a team of one, grossly outnumbered.

Another reason why poker is most definitely a sport is because so much is won and lost on that patch of felt. While all you end up lifting is chips and cards, the strain on your mind and emotions is like that of a prize fighter ducking dodging to keep from being put face down on the canvas. While you aren’t in a lot of physical danger, you’ve got an awful lot to lose in a hurry. If you’ve never played poker for more than a few dollars at a time, you have no idea about whether or not this game is a sport or not. It is.

Many high school and college athletes decrease the role of sports in their lives upon graduation. However, some other athletes have enough passion for sports that they desire to make it into a career. Some athletes have a head-start once professional teams and coaches start scouting out college campuses. Even if you are the top pick of the draft, it is essential that you have a sports agent.

The world of professional sports is rewarding both psychologically and monetarily. Still, you it is time-consuming. You barely have enough time for family and friends let alone essential business aspects of your career. This is where a sports agent plays a role. Sports agents help you negotiate contracts, get increased salaries based on performance, prevent lay-offs after game-related injuries, and network to find opportunities for professional growth and development.

Chances are there will be sports agents scouting you out just as teams were. It is vital to your career that you do not pick the first agent that approaches you. In fact, you may want to do some research on your own and find your own agent. Here are some things to look for in a potential agent:

•	Is he accredited in the field? Sports agents, just like in other professions, are required to take classes and are certified in their field. Prior to certification, many would-be agents are required to work directly with reputable agents.
•	Who are their former and present clients? The more successful the clients are chances are that the sports agent has had a role in it.
•	What are the salary expectations? Keep in mind that most agents do not get paid until you have signed a contract. In some cases, newbies sign contracts prior to securing an agent. In any case, the agent is paid a certain percentage based on their experience. Do not let commissions scare you from securing a successful agent.

Looking for an outdoor game to play that is fun for all ages? Developed in the 1970’s, disc golfing has become a favorite leisure sport for school aged kids through old age.

Disc Golf Defined

While played similar to regular golf, disc golf requires a disc instead of clubs and a ball. The game objective is to have the least amount of throws of the disc made to the target. The player starts out from a teeing off area throwing the disc to a targeted elevated pole with an attached container. The player is required to make each successive shot from the mark where the prior throw has landed as he advances through the course. Like traditional golf, vegetation, trees, and landscape changes througout the course provides challenging obstacles. The hole is complete once the player‘s disc makes the targeted basket.

Who Should Play It and Why?

Disc golf can easily be played by young, old, unfit, and even disabled individuals. No one is excluded from the activity as it is effortless to learn and requires limited mobility. More people are taking up recreational activities in an effort to remain fit and improve their health. Disc golf provides both physical and mental activity. You receive an upper and lower body workout along with low impact aerobic activity with a very low risk of physical injury. Your mental concentration and strategy skills increase as you master shots, negotiate obstacles, plot your plan and approach and engage in a little friendly competition.

Where can Disc Golf be Played?

The cost of disc golf is around $15 for the disc and most courses are in public parks which are free and allow you to play frequently. Use an online directory to search for a course in your area. For those golfers who do not have a permanent course locally to play, try creating temporary courses in local parks and other open recreational areas.

The most important things to remember about disc golf are that it’s fun, good exercise, and can be played by all skill levels.

For those who have ever scurried up a sheer face and scaled a mountain, there is just no other sports like rock climbing. Rock climbing lets you glimpse the other side of a mountain, and for the ever curious human beings, there is no other thrill like that. Moreover, it lets you get this thrill after hours and years of training, hard work, and not a little chance of loss of limb and life – all factors that weigh in to make that thrill even greater. After all, where is the thrill in a thrill that also does not promise danger and hours of back breaking work that few others can do?

There are a few steps to learning rock climbing. The first thing is to be a humble second man in the line and climb an easy face tied to a safety rope. Although this is the least dangerous part of the game, it is still interesting because you learn all about balance, foot holds and hand holds, inclines and gradients and the ways to tie a knot.

The next step is to become the first climber. You still have a rope, but it does not protect you from a fall. All it does is to limit your fall to a shorter distance. Only an experienced trainee can become a first climber.

Done that, you graduate to climbing sheer faces, upto 90 degrees straight up. You also graduate to freehand climbing, if you like, something that can quickly get very exciting and very dangerous. Climbing a chimney by wriggling is also part of this, although a rope can be used here.

Next comes climbing an overhand, or a rock face that is more than 90 degrees inclined. This is beyond the scope of freehand climbing; you need climbing gear for this. Climbing gear includes three basic things; hammer, pitons and the carabiner. Add a rope, and you have all the essentials of rock climbing.

Keeping motivation alive while playing Pro Sports can be a hard thing to do. During school and college years, the need to strive and be seen is clear and present, as the athletes compete against each other and learn team concepts and values. The need to do well is there, it drives the athlete to his/her best performances, especially if there are team mates that encourage and help each other attain the status and level of player that each wants to become.

For a bored athlete motivation is hard to keep. The athlete must always have more to learn, more to try, more to earn; more to play for. Goals must be set and kept in order to stay alive in the pro fields. Have a set of goals, and have all the small goals aimed at building up to a larger goal . Also set up some small reward for reaching the those goals.

Do What it Takes to be a Pro Sport Player

Creative visualization is a tool that most people have. The athlete should picture him/herself achieving that important goal; seeing themselves be successful can drive motivation. Meditating on winning is also helpful.

Use it or lose it. Being good at something doesn’t mean that one doesn’t have to practice anymore. Practice is important to maintain and improve skill levels and the athlete that doesn’t practice will become stagnant and unimportant to the game. More practice makes the athlete better and better.

Be sure to take breaks now and again. Nobody gains from constant work, especially an athlete. Rest is important to the brain and the body. If an athlete is too tired to make good play decisions or doesn’t have the energy to play as an asset to the team, then the athlete is no longer of value to anyone, especially him/herself.

Do whatever it takes to keep the motivation alive. It will only help in the long run.

Running down the field, sweat dripping down your face, the rough texture of ball in your hands and the screaming of the crowd yelling your name. These are all things you have dreamt of experiencing but you don’t know how to get there. There are so many steps between you and the actual experience the path to get there can be a long and confusing one. A good place to start is a high school or college coach.

Think back to all the people who helped you and were with you during your early years in sports. Was there one coach you connected with or one coach you really think you can trust? This coach can be the key to your success. Most coaches have connections and know people who can help you. If you are in high school they will set up the scouts to come watch you play to help you make the next step to college and if you are in college he will connect you with the right people to make it to the NFL. It is not as easy as meeting someone and being signed on a team, but meeting the right people is always a huge help.

Your coach will also help you highlight your attributes and disguise your weaknesses. He will know what plays to run and what position to put you in when you are being watched by the scouts. He will recommend you and be your advocate.

Start this process early and talk to you coaches about your dreams and goals. The more they know about what you want out of the sport, the better they will be able to help you out. You also need to make sure your parents know the details too because this will help you and not hinder you. When an opportunity comes along you want to make sure you can act quickly without needing to catch anyone up or ask for permission.
