All AYSO Youth Referees mourn the loss of their

teacher, friend, and fellow referee...    Ken Aston MBE

1915-2001

"There is no longer a shortage of quality referee instructors at the national, state, or local level, and this is in great measure due to the selfless efforts of Ken Aston.  His name stands alone today as an inspiration to all referees...while many international referees retire to memories of great occasions, Ken continues to usher new generations into the officiating side of the real 'football.'...

A self-proclaimed highlight of Ken's soccer life has been his continued association with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)...'I have seen AYSO grow from a young sapling to a strong and resilient tree, a magnificent testimony to the care and love of countless volunteers.  I hope that I have made a contribution to this positive growth...

Whether it is a fine point of the Laws, in answering a query on the state of the current game, or a story to break the tension and frustration of an unresolved topic, Ken always manages to come through. 'It is the human side, the spirit of the game and its Laws which always come from his lips, and always with a smile,' said a close observer of the wit, wisdom, and personality of soccer's friend and the world's #1 mentor of referees, Ken Aston"
