In an age where kids spend hours playing video games, watching TV and surfing the web it is more important than ever to encourage children to play sports.
Team Building
Sports entourages team building in children. Many times in life your child will need team building skills to get through challenges. School projects and future work situations will go more smoothly for your child if they know how to work as a team player. Soccer, basketball and football are all sports that teach kids to work well with others.
Social Interaction
Kids may thinking they are socializing by sending instant messages and texts to each other, but these cyber situations should not replace face to face interaction. Sports will help your child to get fresh air and exercise well working on social skills with their peers the good old-fashioned way. Children form better bonds and make lasting memories when socializing in person.
Meeting the Right People
When your child is surfing the web, there are a lot of bad people out there. Not only are there pedophiles, but there are also lots of troublesome kids with nothing else to do. Kids who play sports have less free time on their hands. When children are bored, that’s when they have times to wander into dangerous territory such as drugs and having sex too early. When your child engages in sports they are filling their time with a positive activity as well as meeting new friends who are also spending their time in a healthy way.
Keeping Fit
Being too sedentary can cause your child to become overweight. Playing sports is a fun and easy way to burn calories. Using a treadmill or work out bike can seem like a chore for a kid or teen. When kids play sports with their friends, they are working out without even knowing it.
